Flowers of Namaqualand

23 July 2010

Namaqualand has the richest bulb flora of any arid region in the world. For those of you who want to experience the annual miracle of spring flowers of Namaqualand start planning your trip now, as mother nature may just be early with her wild flower spectacular.

We can never be sure, and depending on the weather, carpets of brightly coloured blossoms could be seen as early as the beginning of August.

Vibrant daisies and bulbs awaits your arrival, running riot as far as the eyes can see.

Why not extend your trip and take a raft or canoe trip on the Orange River through deep canyons; take your 4 x 4 on an adventure in the haunting moonscapes of the sawtoothed mountain of the IAiIAis/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park; enjoy the cultural interaction of the Nama people whilst taking a donkey ride in Eksteenfontein, experience the wonder of the star-studded night, from the South African Astronomical Observatory in Sutherland; wrap yourself in an aura of timeless serenity at a solitary, palm fringed cathedral in Pella.
