Mattanu Game Ranch re-opening a great success

16 April 2008 The recent opening of the new facilities at Mattanu Game Ranch was a great success with the MEC of Northern Cape Tourism, PW Saaiman, delivering key notes and officially opening the new developments of the ranch.

This 2300ha Game Ranch with its unique Kalahari savannah Bushveld is 60km outside Kimberley on the Barkley-West road.

It was a great opportunity for the owners to show appreciation to all Mattanu’s loyal helicopter clients, wildlife clients and tourism guests and to do some networking with all the delegates of government.

Presentations on what the lodge has to offer in terms of activities, venue, accommodation and cuisine were given, as well as a presentation on the Kriek Helicopter business and all their products on offer. Bottelary Hills wine centre from Stellenbosch sponsored the wine for the evening. The Nxhu and Xhwe San Bushman entertained all with an exhibition and show.

The game ranch, owned by the Kriek family, started in 1991 when the owner, Dr JC Kriek, imported 95 endangered Roan antelope and 65 rare Sable antelope species into South-Africa from Malawi. This is regarded as one of the most successful game capturing and importing operations ever. The ranch now boasts over 36. Mattanu also operates one of the few privately owned disease free Buffalo breeding projects.

Between 2 and 10 people can be accommodated in our air-conditioned luxury thatch roof, stone built chalet which is fully furnished and equipped for self-catering with family or friends. Luxury en-suite tents can sleep four people, all have air-conditioning, under-floor heating, mini-bar, jet spa bath and private deck.

The restaurant, with its underground wine cellar and cigar bar is the perfect venue for any conference, wedding or function of up to 150 guests.

We also have a fully equipped lapa and deck facility, amidst the Camel Thorn trees that can cater for groups of up to 80 people. The swimming pool with its rock feature waterfall and thatched roof island centre can serve as a great wedding chapel.

Daily Game Drives are included in the accommodation packages and a unique Helicopter Game Viewing or bushveld dinner fly-in experience can be arranged with Mattanu’s private helicopter. Have a hands-on experience with Mattanu’s professional game capture team on their daily immobilization and translocation service. Quad bike rides are very popular along with our bushveld paintball wars.

Mattanu Game Ranch has very special wildlife and bird life and makes for great filming and photographic safaris. They also cater for the eco-friendly green hunter as well as different trophy hunting packages.
